The amount of sugar in baby food should be restricted, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) says. It is also calling on parents to offer children more vegetables to stop them developing a ‘sweet tooth’. The RCPCH is also recommending parents offer bitter flavours too. ‘Part of the problem is that baby weaning products often contain a high proportion of fruit or sweeter tasting vegetables,’ Professor Mary Fewtrell, assistant officer for health improvement and nutrition lead for RCPCH, said. ‘Parents also often use fruit or sweet tasting vegetables as first foods at home. ‘Pureed baby foods packaged in pouches also often have a high energy density and a high proportion of sugar. ‘If sucked from the pouch, the From https://www.dentistry.co.uk/2019/07/01/calls-sugar-baby-foods-restricted/ from https://healthnews010.wordpress.com/2019/07/02/calls-for-sugar-in-baby-foods-to-be-restricted/ from https://jamesjohnson10.blogspot.com/2019/07/calls-for-sugar-in-baby-foods-to-be.html from https://jamesjohnson101.tumblr.com/post/185994659898 from https://judywatson1.blogspot.com/2019/07/calls-for-sugar-in-baby-foods-to-be.html Exercise is one of the most important parts of diabetes management. In this interview they talk with one of the researchers presently working on the development of biomarkers of aging, specific those based on epigenetic markers such as DNA methylation. These epigenetic decorations to the genome determine the pace at which proteins are produced from their blueprint genes. They shift constantly in response to circumstances, one among myriad feedback loops determining cell behaviors. Eight years ago, researchers started to find that weighted algorithms combining the DNA methylation status of certain sites on the genome produced a score that correlated quite closely with chronological age. The first such algorithm was termed the epigenetic clock, and the name has stuck. The highlight of this document published in June – from age 60 to 80 and beyond, older adults spend more time on their screens (watching TV or videos) than on anything else other than sleep. And that includes time spent working. And one other interesting tidbit – 40% of those in their 60s are still working, which of course includes the un-retired. But 14% of people in their 70s are still working, according to Pew, along with 4% of people in their 80s. The report also notes that 73% of the 65+ are Internet users, and 53% are smartphone users. As with the younger population, reading and socializing time has ticked down. What’s on that screen, anyway? One of the key issues that the candidates discussed was health care, and they had some differences in their plans, especially their views of a “Medicare for All” policy. Julie Rovner, the chief Washington correspondent for Kaiser Health News, joined NPR’s Sarah McCammon on “Weekend Edition Saturday” to discuss the candidates’ comments on Medicare for All, health care for undocumented immigrants and the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for most abortions.
